How to Root Acer Iconia A700 and A701 Tablets

Rooting the device will void its guarantee. But, truly said the life of the device doesn’t begin until the warranty has been thoroughly voided.

It is necessary to install the custom ROM firmwares and apps. Now the rooting guide and bootloader unlock is available for Acer Iconia A700 and A701. Let’s begin with that. Here three methods are discussed for your convenience.

Pre requisites:

  • We strongly advise you to take backup of all your internal datas. Because there is a chance of your data getting wiped off at the end of the process. So, it is always advisable to be on a safer side.
  • Make sure the battery level of your device is atleast 70%
  • Disable all the antivirus tools both in your PC and your tablet as this may interrupt the process.

Method-1 Universal for A700 and A701 Tablet:

1. Before start first, enable the ADB mode by following the path Settings>Developer Options>USB debugging.

2. Then Unlock the Bootloader by following the simple steps which we have given below.

  • In the android-SDK go to the “platform-tools” folder.
  • Then launch a terminal and type adb reboot-bootloader.
  • Once, you did that your device will reboot.
  • After that again type fastboot oem unlock.
  • Now, press the Volume Up button to select Unlock then again press the Volume down button to confirm.
  • Then Restart your device type fastboot reboot-bootloader
  • That’s it, your bootloader is now unlocked

3. Once you unlocked the bootloader then reboot your device.

4. Download the archive from here and unpack it to any place

5. Open the directory with the unpacked archive. Execute the files for windows with the rights of administrator:

Code : runit.bat. Your firmware is now rooted.

6. At first, it is necessary to start the Superuser program, at least 1 time after receiving the root and only then programs that require root access.

WARNING : Don’t install the Busybox! it is already installed and established if you reinstall it, some programs will become unable to access root permissions!

Method 2: With the patched kernel from the A700 tablet. For ICS A700 firmware only!

1. Enable the ADB mode by following the path Settings>Developer Options>USB debugging.

2. Then Unlock the Bootloader by following the steps which we have given in the Method 1 above.

3. Then reboot a tablet. After that download the archive from here and unpack it to any place.

4. Open the directory with the unpacked archive. Execute the file for windows with the rights of administrator:

Code : flash-ICS-patchedBoot.bat

Your boot.img is now patched and firmware is now rooted.

6. At first, it is necessary to start the Superuser program, at least 1 time after receiving the root and only then programs that require root access.

7. Now install the BusyBox and Titanium Backup

8. Run BusyBox and go through the install steps.During this SU should ask permission to give BB root access, if it does, it worked!

Method 3: From CWM recovery for A700 and A701 tablet-Not available due to problems in the work of CWM recovery!

1. At the tablet must be installed CWM recovery

2. Download the archive and put it on the SD card. Insert the SD-card in the tablet.

3. Run the CWM recovery on the tablet and flash ICS_Rooting_recovery.zip. Your firmware is now rooted.

4. Now install the SuperUser and Titanium Backup

5. At first, it is necessary to start the Superuser program, at least 1 time after receiving the root and only then programs that require root access.

    My device is Acer Iconia A701 and comes with Jelly Bean 4.1.1.
    I do successfully unlock the bootloader, but i’m not clear your instruction on method 1 step no.5.
    I do extract all files and then i lost. Please guide me.
