Hi folks, if you want to update your HTC Sensation device, then follow this tutorial. This is a general guide and can be applied to flash any ICS 3.33-based rom afterwards.

HTC Sensation

Pre requisites:

  • We strongly recommend you to take back up all your datas completely with the help of nandroid backup; before starting to proceed this procedure. Because once you start to update your firmware there is a chance to wipe off your data.
  • Then Make sure your device battery is fully charged.
  • Then disable all the antivirus suites because this may interrupt the update process.
  • Make sure whether your phone is S-Off before start to proceed.
  • As a precautionary measure, remove the sim card from the phone and keep it out during the whole process.

DISCLAIMER : Best Android Blog would not be held responsible/liable for any damages that takes place to your device by following this procedure. So, do everything at your own risk.

Step 1. Flashing 4EXT recovery touch:

During the installation of ARHD ROM you will be asked if you want to add/flash certain features ( i.e: stock or custom kernel, TMOUS 4g support, sony bravia engine, among other things). To make those choices you need to flash 4ext recovery touch before the ROM, if you decide to flash the ROM with CMW recovery this options will not appear. 4ext recovery touch is included in ARHD by default, any other recovery will be overwriten after the installation.

Just in case, if you’ve decided not to flash ARHD and/or the ROM you’ve chosen do not require you to have 4EXT recovery touch installed, you can skip this section.

  • Download this file, check the MD5 of the zip and install it following the steps 3 and 4 which we have given below. Please make a note that the file used in this method will not install the needed 3.33 firmware. It only contains the recovery.img to flash 4ext recovery touch.
  • If you get the “CID error” you’ll need to know what your CID is and manually add it to the android-info.txt file contained in the .zip.

Step 2. Downloading the firmware package:

  • Download the latest 3.33 universal firmware package (PG58IMG.zip) from here.

Step 3. Updating the firmware:

After updating the firmware you will have the 3.33 firmware with unlocked bootloader (revolutionary hboot 1.27) which basically means that you can use advanced fastboot commands, such as: flash new radios and splashscreens

1. Copy the PG58IMG.zip file you’ve downloaded to the root of the sdcard. Root of the sd card mean that you can’t put the file inside any folder. Also, you can’t rename the file. Please keep the PG58IMG otherwise the bootloader won’t recognize it.

2. Power off your phone or remove the battery and put it back again.

3. Hold volume-down + power button to boot into the bootloader

4. Wait for the firmware package to be found and confirm to update as prompted

5. Once it is completed successfully and prompted you to reboot, pull the battery out.

Step 4: Removing the PG58IMG.zip file from the sd card

  • Now that you have updated the firmware successfully, it is necessary to delete the PG58IMG.zip file from the sd card to gain access to the bootloader without being asked if you want to update the firmware. To do so, we have two options:

Option#1 If you can have access to the sd card from a computer:

  • Remove the sdcard from your phone, attach it to your computer and delete the PG58IMG.zip from the sdcard.
  • Remove the sdcard from your computer and return it to your phone.
  • Hold volume-down + power to boot into bootloader.
  • Wait 10 seconds until the bootloader is fully loaded
  • Now your bootloader screen should read:
  • -Revolutionary-
  • PYRAMID PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
  • HBOOT-1.27.1100
  • RADIO-11.24A.3504.31_M
  • Navigate with the volume button and select recovery with the power button
  • Wait for the recovery to boot
  • You are good to go, now you can flash the ROM.

Option#2. If you can’t have access to the sd card from a computer:

  • Remove the sd card from the phone
  • Hold volume-down + power to boot into bootloader.
  • Wait 10 seconds until the bootloader is fully loaded
  • Now your bootloader screen should read:
  • -Revolutionary-
  • PYRAMID PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
  • HBOOT-1.27.1100
  • RADIO-11.24A.3504.31_M
  • Insert the sd card now
  • Navigate with the volume button and select recovery with the power button
  • Wait for the recovery to boot
  • You are good to go, now you can flash the ROM.
  • Delete the PM58IMG.zip file from your sd card using your preferred file manager as soon as your phone has booted succesfully. You won’t be able to boot into recovery normally until you delete this file. As a workaround use this method to enter into recovery mode.
