How to Update Sony Xperia T with AOSP Jellybean 4.1 Firmware

Over the period of this article we will be checking out on how to update AOSP Jellybean in Sony Xperia T.

Please be aware that it is not an official firmware released by Sony. The AOSP (Android Open Source Project) Jellybean is just a custom ROM firmware. So if you want to apply this firmware in your device you must root your device without rooting the device you could not apply this firmware.

Pre requisites:

  • It is always advisable to be on a safer side before you start to try anything new on your device. So, we strongly advice you to take backup of all your internal datas with the help of backup applications. Just in case, if you lost your data due to any reason after updating the firmware, you could easily recover them.
  • And also make sure whether your device battery level is atleast 75% to avoid the risk of your device getting switched off during the middle of the updating process.
  • Then Disable or Uninstall all the antivirus suites that you have installed in your mobile and computer. Because this may interrupt the process.
  • Then finally enable the USB Debugging option by following the path Settings>Applications>Development>USB Debugging.

Procedure to Update:

  1. First download the CM 10 based AOSP firmware and Google apps zip package from here to your computer.
  2. Once downloaded, connect your device to the computer and placed the downloaded file in your device internal SD  Card.
  3. After that disconnect your device from the computer and download the ROM Manager app from the Google Play Store to enter your device into the recovery mode. Once you downloaded the ROM Manager, select “reboot into recovery mode”.
  4. Now, in recovery mode, select select “Wipe data / Factory Reset” and “Wipe cache partition” to clear all the cache files if any present in your phone.
  5. After clearing the data, select “install zip from sd card” > “choose zip from sd card” and then choose the CM 10 based AOSP Firmware and Google Apps Package which you have placed in your device.
  6. Once you selected within 5 minutes the update will be applied in your device.

Note : You are not suppose to disturb the device until the update process is complete by pressing the power button or menu button.
