The year 2011 was dominated by Galaxy S2 which was the most powerful android device of the year. It boasted some impressive hardware and performance in a very thin shell. No other devices were able to match the performance offered by Galaxy S2.
Other phones were able to come close to the performance of Galaxy S2 but were never able to beat it. So Galaxy S2 took the title of the king of android in the year 2011. But this year Galaxy S3 was unveiled which offers much improved performance over its predecessor and has become the EMPEROR of android smartphones.
So we have prepared this post in which we will take a look at some of the features of both the devices and see whether Galaxy S3 is a noticeable improvement over Galaxy S2 or not.
Display And Form Factor Comparison
Galaxy S3 comes with a 4.8inch Super AMOLED HD display which supports a resolution of 1280×720. The display is bright and vibrant with clear crisp color. The display utilizes a Pentile Submatrix instead of the traditional RGB matrix as a result of which you might think that the texts or images won’t be sharp.
Don’t worry about that because the pixel density of the display is at 306ppi which makes sure that no matter what you are viewing is clear and vivid. On the other hand the display of Galaxy S2 also utilizes the Super AMOLED display but only has a resolution of 480×800.
Galaxy S2 display has the traditional RGB matrix so as a result images and texts appear very vivid and clear. You might think that it is HD but it not the only difference is the usage of the different matrix.
IN the form factor category Galaxy S3 is noticeable bigger due to the bigger display and the device measures 136.6 mm in height and 70.6 mm in width while the Galaxy S2 measures 125.3 mm in height and 66.1 mm in width. The Galaxy S3 is also heavier than S2 at 133g.
Processor, RAM And GPU Comparison
Galaxy S3 features Exynos 4212 quad core processor which is clocked at 1.4 GHz. It is the fastest mobile processor currently available in the world now. The processor in the Galaxy S2 is also based on Cortex A9 and produced by Samsung which is a dual core Exynos processor clocked at 1.2 GHz.
The processor in the Galaxy S3 is very powerful as proved by various benchmarks that have been carried out. It is shown that the Exynos Quad core processor easily beats the Tegra3 and S4 CPU in terms of performance.
The difference carries on because the GPU architecture that is being used in both the devices is same and is based on the Mali-400MP which we know is the most powerful GPU that is available. The GPU in Galaxy S3 is clocked higher at 400 MHz while in Galaxy S2 it is clocked at 233 MHz
Both the devices carry 1 GB of RAM which is more than enough for intensive multitasking.
So stay tuned for the next part where we continue the comparison to see whether Galaxy S3 is a worthy successor to Galaxy S2 or no. Do let us know what you think.
