Last year was all about the launch of the dual core phone and the phone which took away the title of the best dual core phone of 2012 was none other than Samsung Galaxy S2.

Although other dual core phones were available but none of them were a match for Galaxy S2 in terms of performance and processing power. The reason was that Samsung had utilized their Exynos chipset which provided much better performance at efficient battery life.

At MWC Barcelona many quad core phone have been released and it seems Quad core will be the norm this year. Apart from NVidia which launched quad core with their Tegra 3 chipset, Qualcomm and Samsung have also joined the race of chip manufacturing and each is trying to beat the other at their game.

So let’s take a look at some of the quad core beasts of 2012

1. HTC One X:

Fortunately for HTC they will be the first company to have a quad core phone in the market. Last year the crown was taken by LG which had made Optimus 2x the world’s first dual core phone.

This device will be powered by NVidia’s Tegra 3 chipset featuring the 4+1 architecture and will be clocked at 1.5 GHz. The device has a very amazing and brilliant display which is 4.7inch featuring a 720p HD resolution. 1 GB of RAM will make sure that you don’t face any hiccups and with 32GB of internal storage will take care of your apps and entertainment needs. You also get an 8MP camera which will be able to record videos at 1080p.

2.Motorola Bullet:

This will be the first quad core device in the company’s portfolio. It will feature a 4.3inch qHD resolution screen which will be powered by Tegra 3 processor. You also get an amazing 16GB internal storage along with an NFC chip. Apparently this device will also feature an 12MP camera which will be able to record videos at 1080p.

3. Sony Xperia S:

Unlike other manufacturers who have jumped the quad core bandwagon Sony have decided to stick to the dual core processor for a tad bit longer and have produced one of the most amazing looking phones till date.

Xperia S has a dual core 1.5 GHz snapdragon processor along with a brilliant 4.3inch 1280×720 HD display and 1GB of RAM. You also get a 12MP camera which takes high quality images. Sony is determined to position themselves right at the door of the HD devices albeit with specs that are not outdated.

4. Samsung Galaxy S3:

This is one of the most anticipated devices of the year after Galaxy S2 had taken the stage with a storm last year. Unfortunately Samsung didn’t have a working unit with them at MWC but they have promised that they will be releasing the device sometime in May at one of their held events.

The reason for this delay is that Samsung are trying various kinds of Exynos processor for their device as they are aiming at providing one of the most efficient performances that you can ever find from an smartphone. The specs that Samsung have promised are:

  • 2Gb of RAM
  • 4.6inch 1280×800 HD Super AMOLED Plus display
  • 12MP rear camera
  • 1.5Ghz Quad core variant of Exynos chipset

5. LG Optimus 4x:

This is yet another powerful device by LG which was displayed at MWC and has captured the attention of many smartphone enthusiasts. The device is powered by Tegra 3 chipset which is clocked at 1.5 GHz and also features an HD screen which is at 4.7inch. The device will be available with Android 4.0 ICS preinstalled and the performance of the android is just amazing.

The device also packs a massive 2000mAh battery which will ensure that you never run out of battery when you need it the most.
